With a 24 hour weather delay, and under a steady drizzle and threatening skies, the Red Wing Area Seniors, Inc. 4th annual Field of Honor was posted.  The unqualified success was the culmination of a lot of hard work by the Field of Honor Team Members and countless others who supported the event.

Mike Murphy and his sound system opened the event as Civil Air Patrol Composite Squadron 140 Cadets handed out programs and directed people in attendance to designated areas.   The combined American Legion Post 54 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Color Guard posted the colors and Jon Stordahl, newly minted Eagle Scout led us in the Pledge of Allegiance.  Belen Benway read her award winning essay on "Why I am Proud to Be an American".  Lt Col (US Army Ret) delivered a stirring address that reflected the community's commitment to our men and women serving in the armed forces.

Soldiers from the local Minnesota National Guard, attired in their combat uniforms and veterans from Mazeppa American Legion Post  588, escorted those posting flags while Boy Scouts from Troops 31 and 32 held the line and provided traffic control.  Following the posting ceremony an aerial salute thundered over the field from across the river.  The ceremony culminated with Taps from the bugle of Terry Nelson and Robert Lies piped the field with his Scottish bag pipes.

Many of the posted flags had pictures of those that were honored and made it a very personal tribute to those who sacrificed so much for the liberty of our country and those still serving.  A huge thanks to all who participated and made this year's tribute a success.
